Star Wars® Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy App Reviews

Amazing

Great graphics, considering that this game is played on an apple device, since i know that their games graphics arent always too pleasing, and i am only on my first mission, and i already see the things i looked forward to seeing such as force powers and switching between lightsabers/blasters. Also, the ability customisation is not hard AT ALL, unlike i expected.

the Force is STRONG with this one ...

wow what a great surprise! loved the Xbox version and this is JUST like it - great fun to play, sure voices and such are eye-rollingly inane, but the game itself is just a hoot. And youll love the shrieks of the Dark Jedi as they get toasted by your Force Lightning or sent over the precipice with a good old Push … some chapters are a bit loooooong, but overall I think this is just a grand old time. and for $10 ?? UNBEATABLE … "Jedi Knight II" is next up !!

Finally! Such a great game!

This is an oldy, but still a greaty. Its a FPS that you never need to actually shoot anything. Just pick your lightsaber and go to town. Ive played this game so many times over the years that there are NO surprises left for me, but its still a fun game to play. The storyline works, the music is great, and countless lightsaber battles make me a happy Jedi. Thanks for getting this on the App Store!

Crash after Crash

The Game runs flawlessly with no hiccups what so ever. However it crashes every five minutes! I dont know if its the OS or the app itself but it is extremly annoying...

no gamepad support = not happy

I was excited to finally be able to play Jedi Academy on the Mac, but upon launching the game i quickly discovered that this version does not support gamepad use. Which was a shock and disappointment (especially since this game was ported to consoles years ago and the PC version had controller support). Basically I wasted $10 and cannot enjoy playing this until/if theres a patch or update released.

Brilliant

Fantastic!!! Nothing more to say.

love the game… but

i love this game but i cant log into multiplayer

….

I think that it gets really annoying especially in the training center

Really awosome but we need to see battlefront 2 on the app store or even number 1 just do

if you guys realeased battlefront 1 and 2 on the app store you guys at apple would get so much more money and more people will buy your product. plus It is supper supper fun just do it I want it so badly so I dont have to order it Online and also jedi academy was great!

Classic enjoyment!

This is another one of those, had it on my pc then lost my pc. Found it here a couple days ago, bought it and addicted to playing it! Awsome!!!

Cludge?

Star Wars Jedi Academy is a great classic game. This version from the App store is, however, lacking since it does not connect to many if not most multiplayer servers. Aspyrs support page states "When you try to join a MP server that is modded and you do not have the required mods, you will receive an error indicating that you are missing files. Most of these modded servers have auto downloads turned off for people joining. Be sure to "allow downloads" in MP options to be able to get files when available from the host server." First it indicates that Downloads need to be on but then most of the servers dont allow Auto Downloads. Not very helpful. Furthermore, I also have the older retail version of this game for Mac which does not have this problem, so it does not seem the above statement is correct for many of the servers the App Store version of the game cannot connect to. The retail (non-App Store) version does not work with Lion or Mountain Lion unless you make the following modification: Make a text file named autoexec.config Add these lines to the file seta r_colorbits "32" set r_allowExtensions 0 Place in the "base" folder in Jedi Academy folder Play Seems like Aspyr could have easily made a patch for the retail version, but of course they havent. Its unlikely most typical users will do this, so they are stuck using the App Store version which overall turns out to be quite unsatisfactory if you want to play multiplayer.

Macbook Pro Retina Display problem

After seeing this on the app store I was way excited to play a game that I grew up playing. I was skeptic about some of the earlier reviews but I decided to get it any way. To my luck, for some reason whenever I click on the icon to play, my screen is extremely magnified. Despite trying to change my computers resolution, and also disabling the automatic graphic switching (recommended from Aspyrs support site), the game is still unplayable and I am forced to shut off my computer. If I could actually play the game I would be in a better spot to rate it better.

Half of the game works flawlessly.

The single player half of the game works beautifully. However, when going to Multiplayer, it cant load of 95% of the servers that are available because it cant load plugins. Even after installing them into the appropriate place, the app still doesnt recognize them. This renders multiplayer nearly useless. Ill revise this review if and when a fix is implemented.

great game NO POPULATION

this is an all time classic just needs a population to get things rolling. no servers or games to play online :/ only downfall.

Awesome Game

I love this game, i know some people are having issues with mods and whatnot. Here is your gamedata folder. /Users/yourusername/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.jediacademy.appstore/Data/Library/Application Support/Jedi Academy/ I would highly recommend you google REDSAURUS and youll find his page is full of information on jedi academy for mac

dosn

tried to download and succeeded but when i tried to open it it said that it was "damaged"

Rating on Merit

This game is fantastic. All the Jedi Knight series games are well thoughtout, and extremely enjoyable. What gets me is the negative reviews that have no basis on the game itself. Giving one star because you can’t figure out how to run the game on your system is asinine. If you aren’t intelligent enough to run an older game on a newer system, do some googling. It will help you. Unix is an incredibally powerful system base, and there is almost nothing it can’t do backwards compatable. The same goes for KOTOR. These are old games! They were designed for different systems. Don’t hate based on a port not working perfectly. Just find the workaround, and enjoy the good old days.

Honest Review

This game is very impressive, especially for its time. It has amazing visuals combined with an engaging storyline. Custom Character: 7/10 I give the custom character a 7/10 because it doesnt have that many choices. It has enough to keep the game interesting, and overall it keeps you drawn in for many walkthroughs of the campaign. The Custom Character doesnt really affect gameplay much, so its not a large part of this reveiw. Story: 9/10 It isnt super in depth and descriptive, and is rather straightforward in approach. Nonetheless, the storyline has a very high rate of replayability. There are some levels that can be rather annoying, but they all add in to the whole, where its just plain fantastic. The Force: 7/10 I only give the force 7/10 because it actually subtracts from the challenge aspect of the game once youve leveled up enough. When you run into a room with three Sith and a group of stormtroopers it makes it rather anticlimatic when the video of the main boss dialogue ends and you finish the fight with his cronies in five seconds. (Force Lightning.) Now, I would make the force powers a 9/10 for those of you who want a easy blast through levels as fast as possible game. It would be the same for hardcore gamers, because the force abilities are, though not nerfed in the higher difficulties, more intense. A combination of more health, and a longer time for force points to regenerate, makes the game better on these difficulties. Combat: 9/10 When youre in a lightsaber fight and you slash someones arm off its pretty amazing. One time I got a spectacular death animation from a handless stormtrooper who moaned as he slowly but surely fell to his knees, then slumped to the ground. Overall: 9/10 I hope those of you who want to purchase this do so as soon as you can so you can join in the fun.

Difficult to use controls

I found the controls to be a bit difficult to use, and yes I do play games 3-4 times per week on my MBP. The graphics are so-so but if the controls were better I would certainly enjoy the game. A real shame as I was looking really forward to a Star Wars game and feel like I wasted $9.99

Update did’t fix the opening problem

Before the update it opened to the lower left quarter of what would usually be the main menu. I don’t think I messed with the settings to cause this. Update came and it went back to normal. Played it a few times. Great game, but the problem has come back so I can’t play. I definitely didn’t mess with anything so I don’t see what’s wrong. Fixing this would be great.
